1. Teachers will generate a list of resources (books & movies) that they plan to use in the classroom for instructional purposes. This does not pertain to books in classroom or school libraries. This is on material that will be used for instructional purposes and does not include the items used for Family Life.

Criteria for Possible Materials Used in Our Schools:

  • Books with Nudity
  • Books that describe sexual encounters
  • PG or above movies -specific titles must be on the list

2. Teacher will complete the Boones Mill Explicit Materials Submission Form form.

3. The BMES Sexually Explicit Policy Committee will meet to review the material. The 1st step is to check the materials list that other schools have previewed to see if the material has already been vetted. If not, the team will use the Elementary Reviewing Instructional Guidelines/Form.

4. For any instructional material that is deemed to be sexually explicit by the committee, it will be uploaded to the Boones Mill Website for parental review.

5. Also, a letter will be sent to parents (Dojo, School Messenger and/or printed) at least 30 days prior to it being used from Mrs. Shaver. This letter offers parents the ability to opt for an alternative instructional material that does not include sexually explicit content.

Commonsense Media website can be used to help review materials and movies for potential concerns.  This does not replace individual review.  The web address is  https://www.commonsensemedia.org  and a school educator account has been created with the following username and password.
